My neighbour's kids jump on their 12ft trampoline all day… they ruined my peace & quiet but attacked ME for complaining | The US Sun

A WOMAN and her pensioner mother claim their peace and quiet has been ruined thanks to the neighbour's kids jumping on a 12ft trampoline all day.

Daughter Leonie lives with her 88-year-old mum in the family home where they say their garden is a sanctuary for them both.

The pair claim they can no longer enjoy their happy place since next-door put up the "enormous" trampoline last week.

Leonie said the spot they like to sit in was peaceful but the trampoline now just "looms" over it and it's unfair on her mum who has mobility issues and poor eyesight.

Leonie sought legal advice after she went round and asked the wife if they wouldn't mind moving the trampoline so it wasn't so close to the shared fence.

Leonie said: "I tried having a polite word with the wife to ask if the trampoline could be moved from where it is, which is just the spot where mum and I like to sit.

"Trying to remain friendly, I did also say I know it is a good thing for their children to get outside."

The next thing she knew, the husband was knocking at her door threatening her with the local council if she didn't stop moaning.

"The husband has been round to ours and said they will not move it and if I don’t stop moaning he will complain to the council we are infringing the right of his children to have fun in their own garden," Leonie added.

"I cannot believe we have gone from being on friendly terms to warring neighbours so quickly."

Gary Rycroft, lawyer columnist for the Telegraph said: "There are two angles here – one is the trampoline in effect allowing snooping into your garden and loss of privacy – you say it looms over your fence so the children next door can now in effect see into your garden.

"The other angle is noise and more particularly noise nuisance. If asked to do so, the council’s environmental health department will monitor noise nuisance and if found could then link it to the loss of privacy issue as well.

"However, before you complain to the local authority I would urge you to put on your tin hat and go and see your neighbours and ask again to see things from your side."
