On August 21, 2022, a Missoula Police Department officer observed 51-year-old Nunzio Schepis riding a bike in the parking lot of the Missoula County Detention Facility. The officer arrested Schepis after learning that he had a large warrant out for his arrest. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.  

“Officers had contact with Nunzio Schepis who had a warrant out for his arrest,” Arnold said. “Officers had located him and made contact with him regarding the warrant. Schepis was placed into custody for the warrant. During the search incident to arrest, a substance that tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine was located on his person as well as possession of dangerous drug paraphernalia in his belongings.”  

The officer transported Schepis to jail. There, a Missoula County Detention Facility officer located a small plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine in Schepis’s pocket. Shortly thereafter, another officer conducted an inventory search of Schepis’s backpack.  

According to court documents, the backpack contained a blue tourniquet, cotton balls, metal caps, syringes, alcohol wipes, and a saline solution. The officer knows from training and experience that these items are commonly used to assist in the consumption of dangerous drugs.  

The officer later performed a TruNarc scan of the suspected methamphetamine and it returned presumptively positive.  

Schepis is currently being charged with one count of felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $10,000. As of Tuesday evening, Schepis remained in custody at the Missoula County Detention Center.
