The contact with Brigham Young University began long before McLean provided D1 acceptance letters to almost all schools in the country, and these acceptance letters took place in his hometown of Lakeland, Florida.

Tyree Brooks is another product in Polk County. He was recently injured in a car accident during his senior year at Tuskegee University and was forced to end his hopeful football career. After the accident, Brooks went to a trampoline park called "2infinity" in Lakeland, Florida, and served as a "security slash hype."

While working at the trampoline park, Brooks knew the park’s former manager Tenilson very well. Since then, Nielsen has been promoted to CircusTrix's vice president of marketing at the company. The parent company owns many trampoline parks across the country, such as the trampoline park in Lakeland, Florida.

Nielson was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Before transferring and finishing his studies at LSU, he spent his freshman year at BYU. After graduating from Louisiana State University, he moved to Lakeland, Florida, where he opened a trampoline park for CircusTrix in 2016.

The academic year at Brigham Young University was not the only connection between the couple and the school. After working together in the park for a while, Brooks and Nelson established some connections with big names by hosting parties in the park and arranging popular performers to host the event. One of these big names is the popular rap duo Ayo & Teo from Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Shortly after the two performed in the park in 2017, Cosmo the Cougar and Cougarettes released a video in which they danced to the famous Ayo & Teo song "Rolex" during a BYU football match, which went viral on the Internet.

Nielson saw the video and found that he was sending a message to Cosmo's Instagram account to connect BYU and Ayo & Teo.

"So I don't have much contact with Brigham Young University, he is just a fan," Nielsen said in an interview with ESPN 960. "I like to send Cosmo messages saying believe me, I know the people who wrote this song. We can send them to BYU, it will be the coolest thing ever'"

The people from Brigham Young University responded to the news, and then the plan for Ayo & Teo to perform at Brigham Young University was also put in place. Brooks is the host of the performance during the intermission of the Brigham Young University basketball game against Pacific University on January 28, 2018.

So how did Nelson and Brooks meet McLean? When he was a child, McLean often went to the park with his friends. One day, he did something different for a child of the same age to make him stand out from others.

"Something went wrong in the park," Brooks said in an ESPN 960 interview. One of the children stole some very expensive shoes. "

The missing shoe is the Jordan Space Jam 12, which is priced from US$300 to US$500 on the market today.

McLean came forward and told Brooks and Nelson that he knew who had taken the shoes, and that he could go to that person's house to retrieve them later.

"Cormani is a local kid Tyree knows. I mean he is 12 years old. He is not a newcomer. He is not a football player. He is just Cormani." Nelson said. "[He] is here, he is like...'I know who stole the shoes, I can get them back'... After that, Cormani is basically a free jumper anytime Child, because he saved this day on the stolen Jordan shoes."

Fast forward to June 2021. For the first time in 15 months, the NCAA allowed on-site recruitment after the closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. McLean made an informal visit to Brigham Young University for the first time. He attended the Brigham Young University summer camp, where he would take home the honor of being the fastest man in the camp. This is not the only thing he did when he returned to Florida-defensive guard coach Genaro Guilford offered him a scholarship during McLean's stay in Provo.

About two months later, McLean released his first list of top 5 schools, including Alabama, Florida, Ohio, Miami and Florida. Therefore, experts and fans of Brigham Young University will naturally think that Brigham Young University has been unable to become one of the highest-ranked recruits in the history of the project. That is—until they are not.

"No one really knows this," Nelson said. "Cormani came out in the summer and had a great time. Coach Sitake asked him to sit down and gave him the best speech I have ever heard."

Nelson said that McLean suddenly texted him in August, telling him that he wanted to go to Brigham Young University to watch a game, and chose November 6th as the date. Nielsen said that over time, he had forgotten McLean's plan to go to Brigham Young University.

"He followed up and asked if we were still doing...so this game and the specific date were promoted by Cormani." Nelson said.

Had a great time in Provo this weekend, thank you Nd Most Def, the coaching staff of Brigham Young University, for expressing to all students and fans the most loving Nd city I have ever seen, a city full of love 🖤 pic.twitter.com /RRHOnmat4W

McLean is not the only Florida athlete to come to Brigham Young University. This time he brought three of his friends, and they all played in nearby Lakeland High. Running back D'marius Rucker in 2024, safety guard Dontay Joiner in 2023 and wide receiver Daidren Zipperer in 2023. His brother Keon Zipperer played for the Florida Gators. Zipperer also won a scholarship over the weekend through match coordinator and receiver coach Fesi Sitake.
