Grand Island may be a little-known city in Nebraska, but in terms of attractions and activities, it is no less attractive than Lincoln or Omaha.

Travelers who travel through Nebraska along Interstate 80 may want to know what attractions and cities in the Great Plains State are worth visiting. Omaha and Bellevue are the largest metropolitan areas in the state, attracting visitors with their rich history and thriving art scene, not to mention the Henry Dolly Zoo. Lincoln, the state capital, is a thriving university town. It provides museums, sports events, live music and more. They are all great holiday destinations, but so is Grand Island, Nebraska's third largest city. It is located about 100 miles west of Lincoln and is the site of the Nebraska State Fair. Read on to learn about the sights on Grand Island.

The history of Grand Island and the Union Pacific Railroad are closely intertwined. The first European settlers, about 30 Germans from Russia settled on an island in the Platte River. About ten years later, the railway company opened a small town called Grand Island Station, not far from the island. Most aborigines choose to relocate to a new location. The railway brought prosperity to the town and connected it with the rest of the country.

Tourists who want to learn more about the life of these early plains pioneers should visit the Stewart Museum of Prairie pioneers. This attraction includes fascinating displays and artifacts about the life of the pioneers. The operation also has a large number of farm equipment with a long history. Currently, management is updating this area so that it is more interactive for children-they will be able to touch tractors and interact with exhibits that explain how these machines work.

The gem of the Stuhr Museum is a simulated pioneer village called the Railway Town, where actors dressed in period costumes guide visitors to their shops, homes and gardens. Many tourists end up staying longer than they expected, so tourists should arrange at least half a day for this attraction.

Today, railways are still the foundation of Grand Island’s economy and identity. The track runs through the town center, and more than 140 trains pass every day. This means there is one almost every 20 minutes.

Train lovers and children will see these huge vehicles driving through towns. Many of them transport coal from mines in Wyoming. Trains carrying Boeing fuselages from Wichita to Seattle also use these tracks. There are also passenger trains. Counting the number of cars in a railway-side restaurant in the city is a great way to relax and enjoy the afternoon. The most exciting thing is that the Big Boy, the old steam engine of Union Pacific, will pass by every once in a while and stop to provide photos.

If just watching the train is not enough, the family may want to take the miniature train in Stole Park. People who are in the city on the second Tuesday of every month can visit the three-dimensional model of the city track of the Three Cities Model Railway Association. An extensive two-story model occupies the entire building.

Family friendly is an appropriate adjective for Gran Island. In March, children and their parents will enjoy watching the sandhill cranes visit the city in droves. In summer, families can play in Island Oasis Water Park, explore the railway town, or feed and pet pets at Pete's Safari. When the leaves start to change color, it is time to participate in the Nebraska State Fair, showcasing farm animals and amusement park rides. Throughout the year, the city has various parks, playgrounds and indoor play areas for families to play in.

Witnessing the migration of sandhill cranes is an exciting experience-scientists estimate that approximately 600,000 sandhill cranes pass by Grand Island every March. Visitors will feel the orange of Nebraska awe-inspiring, and the evening sky is full of elegant winged silhouettes. The birds gathered on the nearby silver-smooth Platte River, looking for habitat, and then continued to sail north. At sunrise and sunset, visitors can watch them from the public viewing platform in Riverside Park. Crane Trust provides guided tours for those who want to learn more about these feathered friends.

Grand Island has more activities for animal lovers-Pete's Safari. This operation has received rave reviews on Google. Joyce Steinman wrote: "We visited it for the first time today and loved it! Our two-year-old son giggled while feeding the raccoons! His interaction with all the other animals was also very interesting! We are highly Evaluation recommended to visit!"

The site has more than 40 animals and 7 endangered species. Children can even pet kangaroos and arctic foxes! The owner provides pony rides and bouncy castles.
