Pittsburgh's Action News 4 video showed a large tree that fell on a home on Maple Lane in Edgeworth, Allegheny County.

In South Park Township, a tree fell onto the roof of a parked vehicle on Citation Drive. There were also downed trees on Kings Court, McElheny Road and Ridge Road.

In Westmoreland County, fallen tree branches were blocking part of Leechburg Road in Lower Burrell.

The National Weather Service said it had reports of large trees or branches down in areas throughout Allegheny, Westmoreland, Beaver and Butler counties.

Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 crews visited some of the hardest-hit areas.

“The rain was pretty much raining sideways and then a big loud thud,” Adam Cochran said.

He and his wife Lynn Cochran live in Youngstown. The storm forced a large tree down onto their roof.

“It looks like it went through my daughter’s room,” Lynn Cochran said. “Everybody wasn’t home so we are all good.”

The force of the wind even flipped over this trailer.

In Lower Burrell, the wind sent Danielle Skowronski’s trampoline into her fence.

Trees blocked roads throughout the Lower Burrell, including the entrances to Belair Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

“The number one concern with the nursing home is actually accessibility right now, because their path, the driveway is blocked off, with two different trees going down and some high-voltage wires going through,” Lower Burrell council member Chris Fabry said.

Fabry said fortunately, generators kicked in, and crews establish an emergency route through the neighbor’s yard to get to the center if needed.

All of this happened while Frank Koffman was asleep.

“I was woken up by a large cracking sound, felt the house shake, the tree limb out front obviously came down,” Koffman said.

The pressure collapsed part of his roof.

It was a township-wide effort to remove debris and keep people safe from downed power lines.

“There are so many different streets down,” Fabry said. “Citizens were using their own cars to block off areas where there were lines down.”

The storms also caused power outages.

As of Thursday afternoon, Duquesne Light says about more than 1,100 customers are in the dark. A company spokesperson says all customers are expected to have power restored by 11 p.m., but that most will be restored much sooner. West Penn Power is reporting more than 8,000 customers without service right now. The majority of them are in Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties.
