MORE than 1,000 people flocked to a family fun day at Branchton Community Centre.

Organisers say it was the best they've ever held, with something for everyone - and it was all free.

There was everything from bungee trampolines and a bucking bronco to inflatables and face painting.

Centre manager Willie Wilson said: "We had an amazing turnout and the weather was beautiful.

"We had over 1,000 at the event, an overwhelming response.

"Everyone said they had a fantastic time.

"We had activities inside and outside and cordoned off the car park for the bungee jump trampoline and bucking bronco.

"There were games, a disco and balloon modelling and inflatables in our multi-use games area.

"We had face painting inside the centre, free food and drink and give-away prizes."

The £10,000 cost of the event was covered by the Meliora Festival fund.

Willie said: "We were very fortunate to receive Meliora funding, and this meant we could offer all the activities and food for free.

"I came to the centre eight years ago and this was the busiest I've ever seen it in all that time."

Willie wants to thank Shelly Mcllroy, Branchton's chairperson, who was the main organiser for the event.

He said: "During the weeks when the centre was closed Shelly and staff were working away on it behind the scenes.

"It wouldn't have happened without Shelly."
